{"id":4379,"date":"2023-09-06T14:59:16","date_gmt":"2023-09-06T12:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foodactioncities.org\/?post_type=case-studies&#038;p=4379"},"modified":"2024-01-21T09:12:36","modified_gmt":"2024-01-21T08:12:36","slug":"optimizing-resource-efficiency-a-zero-waste-approach-to-surplus-food-redistribution-genoa-italy","status":"publish","type":"case-studies","link":"https:\/\/foodactioncities.org\/pt-pt\/case-studies\/optimizing-resource-efficiency-a-zero-waste-approach-to-surplus-food-redistribution-genoa-italy\/","title":{"rendered":"Optimizing Resource Efficiency: A Zero Waste Approach to Surplus Food Redistribution Genoa, Italy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"js-case-anchor wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-action-and-its-aims\">The action and its aims<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The network\u2019s objective is to drive cultural transformation by means of an integrated framework for salvaging and distributing surplus food to individuals in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"js-case-anchor wp-block-heading\" id=\"strong-when-it-was-introduced-strong\"><strong>When it was introduced<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ricibo Network was established in 2017 by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"js-case-anchor wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-it-was-needed\">Why it was needed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Annually, Genoa sees 10,000 tons of food discarded, with a potential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ricibo.org\/\">recovery of at least 2,000 tons<\/a>.&nbsp;At the same time o<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ricibo.org\/\">ver 29,000 individuals are grappling with food scarcity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"js-case-anchor wp-block-heading\" id=\"strong-who-initiated-it-who-is-involved-strong\"><strong>Who initiated it, who is involved<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ricibo Network comprises 70 associations united in the battle against poverty and food waste, receiving support from the Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"js-case-anchor wp-block-heading\" id=\"strong-impacts-to-date-strong\"><strong>Impacts to date<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Collectively, the associations of the Ricibo Network reclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ricibo.org\/progetto\/impatto\/\">approximately 266 tons of surplus food in 2021<\/a>. Of this total 121 tons were sourced from&nbsp;&nbsp;COOP and Conad supermarkets.<br>Since 2019, the educational project \u201cBuon appetite, piatto pulito\u201d (Enjoy Your Meal) has engaged 92 classes and 150 educators across elementary, middle, and high schools.
